'Reaching Across the Gulf of Space - a celebration of William Huggins 200th birthday' with Hugh Allen
in Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall, Zion Hill, Oakhill BA3 5AN
In the 1860's Sir William Huggins was the British pioneer of spectroscopy, the observation and analysis of spectra of astronomical objects. WMA Chairman Hugh Allen is a passionate amateur spectroscopist. His talk will celebrate William Huggin's life and work, just a few days after Sir William's 200th birthday.
Weather permitting we will observe afterwards on the rec ground under the dark skies of Oakhill, so bring your telescope
or binoculars

Messier Night wuth an introductory talk
in Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall, Zion Hill, Oakhill BA3 5AN
It is the time of year when all of the Messier objects can be seen in a dusk-till-dawn night of observing - the so-called Messier Marathon. There will be an introductory talk about Messier and the objects that he catalogued. And then weather-permitting, we will observe under the dark skies of the Oakhill rec ground for as long as there is the stamina.

Speaker Simon Toogood will join us in person for 'Mercury's Magnetosphere'
at Wells & Mendip Museum, 8 Cathedral Green, Wells BA5 2UE (use side-arch entrance)
Long-standing WMA member Simon Toogood (MPhys, Leicester) is about to embark on his PhD also at Leicester University. Simon's talk will describe his MPhys research project on the magnetosphere of Mercury using data from NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft, the first mission ever to go into orbit around the closest planet to the Sun.

Guest speaker Peter Goodhew FRAS will join us remotely for 'Revealing the Undiscovered Cosmos'
at Wells & Mendip Museum, 8 Cathedral Green, Wells BA5 2UE (use side-arch entrance)
Peter Goodhew is part of an international tem of amateurs using a network of robotic telescopes to reveal hitherto unseen parts of the cosmos. Peter will explain how amateurs are finding new cosmic objects and he will reveal some of the most interesting and unusual doscoveries of the past three years. Peter has been photographing deep space since 2015 from two observatories, one in London and the other in southern Spain.
