Sunset partial solar eclipse and then Perseid Meteor Shower Outreach at Wells Cathedral Green |
'Sunset partial Solar Eclipse then the Perseid Meteor Shower'
Wednesday 12th August 2026 18:00-late
Outreach: Everybody welcome
So the whole of Somerset appeared to descend on the Green, the queues to look through the solar telescopes stretched back to the Cathedral itself, starting as soon as we set up and not clearing until the sun disappeared behind the buildings at around 8:30pm. Seestars provided live views on ipads and phones and even projected on a screen in the gazeboo, allowing many children to view safely. Cakes were sold, scopes were looked through and solar glasses were shared around everybody. We all talked and help as many people enjoy the eclipse using as many methods of safe observing as we could. Colanders, pinhole cameras, eclipse glasses, Seestar and the dedicated Solar Scopes.
