CELEBRATING SKYLAB

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Skylab, NASA's first space station. It was the only part of the Apollo Applications Programme to survive budget cuts after the Apollo lunar landings. Following major damage to its solar panel arrays after launch on 14th May 1973, its first crew (the Skylab 2 mission), launched 11 days later, turned the mission round, 'transforming an ailing station into a stunning success for science.' (Spaceflight' magazine, Vol 55, no.6, June 2013).

Here is everything you need to know about Skylab.

Chris is visiting the States in May and may get a chance to chat to some of the Skylab astronauts. He hopes to interview them for an article - so watch this space!
