Wells Cathedral Green, Wells, Somerset, BA5 2UE

6 - 10:30 p.m., Tuesday 7th January 2014

Entry FREE

(Children must be accompanied by an adult)

At Wells Museum, following a welcome and introduction from our chairman Chris Starr, there will be a series of short talks on the Constellation of Orion, Jupiter and the Moon, from experienced members of Wells & Mendip Astronomers (WMA). Later you will have opportunity to use telescopes to view the objects described in the talks on Cathedral Green, weather permitting. The Cathedral lights are to be switched off.

There is an exhibition of astrophotographs from WMA member Pete Richardson taken from his back garden in Bleadon. These are some of the finest amateur images produced in the UK; the astro images on this page are some examples.

There will also be a live demonstration of the radio detection of meteors from Ben, a junior member of WMA. Many tons of dust and rocks land every day on Earth from space and you will be able to see this being detected, whatever the weather!

In addition there will be other activities and a prize raffle.

Bring along a telescope if you have one
